Aubrey + Kevin chose Great Sand Dunes National Park for their Engagement photos. The day was supposed to be a sunny 75 degree day. Which in typical Colorado weather fashion, was a big fat lie haha. As soon as the session started, a huge storm rolled through. With rain and gale force winds. It all makes sense now why the Sand Dunes look the way they do.
If you choose to do your engagement session at the Great Sand Dunes, be sure to prepare for wind and weather. No matter what the forecast tells you. After all, the sand dunes do start around 8,000 ft in elevation.
The Great Sand Dunes is an absolutely breathtaking place for engagement photos. They are also one of the very few National Parks that allows dogs! So, I highly encourage to bring your fur baby along for the adventure!
It’s recommend to take your engagement photos in spring, early summer, or fall. Summertime the sand does warm up quite a bit. Sometimes even to 150 degrees! A photography permit is required to shoot here, so make sure your photographer does have their permit squared away at least a month or so prior to your session.
